Night Light makes use of a frequent theme in Clarice Dreyer's
work: abandoned human objects returning to a natural
state.
Here, a Conestoga wagon sinks into a swamp, as cattails
grow up out of the wagon bed—now full of rocks
and home to painted frogs and snakes—and yellow-headed
blackbirds and butterflies perch on metallic marsh reeds.
A blending of the literal and fanciful gives Night Light
a dream-like, surrealistic edge.
